Hand Knotted Study Rug

How to Measure & Decide
- Measure your furniture footprint, not just the room. Rugs should frame seating or dining areas — at least the front legs of furniture should sit on the rug.
- Leave breathing room. Aim for 6"–12" of visible floor between the rug edge and the walls for balance.
- Dining tables: Ensure the rug extends 24"–30" beyond the table on all sides so chairs remain fully on the rug, even when pulled out.
- Bedrooms: A rug should extend at least 18"–24" past the sides/end of the bed to create comfort underfoot.
- Hallways & transitional spaces: Choose runners that leave 2"–5" of exposed flooring on each side for proper proportion.
Quick Reference Chart
Size | Room Suggestions & Technical Fit |
---|---|
2' x 3' | Doorways, kitchens, under desks. Best for accent placement and layering. |
Runners | Hallways, transitional spaces, beside the bed. Leave 2"–5" border around edges for proper proportion. |
Round Rugs | Dining rooms with round tables (4–6 seats), reading nooks, statement corners, or irregular layouts. |
5' x 8' | Bedrooms (fits under full/queen with nightstands off rug; 18–24" extension at foot). Living rooms with loveseats or small sofas; rug should cover coffee table and front legs of seating. |
7'6" x 9'6" | Dining rooms (fits tables seating 6; rug extends 24–30" for chairs). Bedrooms with queen/king (nightstands off rug). Living rooms with standard sofas and chairs; covers seating footprint. |
8'9" x 11'9" | Living rooms with large sofas/sectionals; rug covers entire seating area. Works for open layouts; creates unified zone. |
Description
The Study Rug is inspired by the intricate wood carvings found on the doors of 19th century homes. Its geometric motifs mirror the refined paneling and ornamentation that have made brownstones so coveted for centuries. Hand knotted from wool and carefully sheered down for a soft, vintage finish and low pile, the Study Rug is perfect for offices, dining rooms, and special living spaces. Available in a muted palette of Juniper and Grey, the Study Rug bridges both traditional and modern interiors.

Care
Shedding is normal for the first 3–6 months and will lessen over time. Vacuum regularly on low power without a beater brush, and blot spills immediately with a clean cloth. Use a rug pad to prevent slipping and protect your floors. Avoid direct sunlight and use protectors under heavy furniture. Clip loose ends, don’t pull. Rotate every 3 months for even wear. For deep cleaning, use a professional service.
PET rugs are moisture-resistant and quick-drying, making them great for outdoor use. They can handle direct rain but are not fully waterproof—bring them under cover during heavy downpours for best longevity.
